Good Shepherd Sunday
World Day of Prayer for Vocations
21 April 2023
A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATE VOCATIONS DIRECTOR
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED IF GOD IS CALLING YOU TO BE A PRIEST?
The Fourth Sunday of Easter this year is called Good Shepherd Sunday and also the World Day of Prayer for Vocations.
We remember and thank God for the people who have been the good shepherds in our life. In a particular way, we give thanks and gratitude to the priests who also offered their whole life in faithful service of the God’s people in the Bathurst Diocese.
Good Shepherd Sunday is also an opportunity to pray for vocations. We pray for more men to hear and generously respond to God’s call to the priesthood, especially in our Diocese. We need more men and women who can offer themselves in service of God’s Kingdom and in preaching the Good News. As Pope Francis tells us, we need priests and consecrated people who have hearts that are open, capable of great initiatives, generous in self-giving, compassionate in comforting anxieties and steadfast in strengthening hopes.
Dear young men of the Diocese of Bathurst, have you ever wondered if God is calling you to be a priest? If you feel that you are called to be a witness of God’s love and presence in this world by your ministry as a priest, do not be afraid to discern that call, and be courageous in saying “yes” to it!
If you think God may be calling you to be a priest, please talk to your parish priest or myself, the Associate Vocations Director of the Diocese of Bathurst.
